Hands of Peace: Host Families and Participants Needed for Summer Program

Hands of Peace is an interfaith organization that empowers young people to raise their voices as leaders of change. Through the power of dialogue, Palestinians, Israelis and Americans partner to pursue peace, equality, freedom and justice.

Hands of Peace is currently looking for Host Families and participants for this summer’s program. Do you know a teen between the ages of 15-17 that would benefit from our program? Or a family that would be willing to join our community of host families and host a Jewish Israeli or Palestinian for 19 days? Join us for this life changing experience by becoming a participant or a host family. Program dates are July 12-July 31

The Paradox of Courage
The Mature Response to Fear
with Eric Kaufmann

Fear is the basic mood of the human organism. We’re wired around fear. As children, we hid in our beds and pulled the covers over us when we felt overwhelmed. As adults we find other ways to pull the covers over our heads. We busy ourselves with work, we socialize, we get angry, turn to addictive behaviors – all to protect ourselves from the big bad monster: FEAR.

This way of being is unsustainable and reduces our significance for life as well as our capacity for joy.

SO what is the MATURE RESPONSE to fear? How do we cultivate courage – the courage to commit, speak up, and care?

Join Eric Kaufmann, facilitator, executive coach, and author of The Four Virtues of a Leader for an important (to our times and lives) session on the Paradox of Courage. Eric will be discussing principles and tactics for cultivating courage and taking purposeful action in the face of adversity and difficulty.

Everyone is invited to bring a dish of food to share; beverages and table service will be provided. No need to RSVP; we’ll just rely on good luck to provide the right mixture of food, and if all we have is dessert, then that’s what we’ll eat!

High Holiday 2016/5777 Information

Welcome to JCo’s High Holiday Season!

We can’t believe that we are already celebrating our THIRD High Holiday season at JCo. Our community is thriving and it’s time to welcome our third year together!

This year we will be coming together at the Presbyterian Church of La Costa, the future home of our very own building!

Please visit our October calendar for all of the information that you need for this year’s services. Please read the information for each day very carefully. Space is very limited, so we ask that you register for each member of your family for each service (Just add them as guests). If your children will be participating in the Children’s programming (space is very limited), please register them only for the programming and not the services.

Dress Code: None. Some people like to dress up while others like to be comfortable. The number one rule at JCo is that there is no judgment.

Donations are always welcome!
Looking Forward to a Great Season!

Meet our clergy, Rabbi Josh Burrows, and Rabbi/Cantor Gabi Arad.

You’ll have behind-the-scene sneak peeks of our proposed new building and walk a footprint on the exact site it will occupy as our future home quickly comes to fruition.

You and your family/friends will be treated to friendly conversation, smiling faces, and a nutritious/delicious nosh. Come meet with our faculty, Cohort Leaders, and members.

Cohorts are the distinctive heart and soul of JCo and encompass members’ interests and talents — showcasing anything and everything from Art and Prayer to Health and Nature with lots of great stuff in-between. We welcome new cohorts to form as quickly as ideas are conceived. So what’s your passion?!

We’ll also be having a joyful Havdalah ceremony to bid farewell to Shabbat and usher in a new week.
